The Met at The Downtown Clubs Announces Multimillion-Dollar Reinvention
HOUSTON (March 6, 2017) The Met at The Downtown Clubs announces that construction is now underway on a multimillion-dollar reinvention project, a transformation that will recreate the space and bring a new club experience. Set to be complete in late summer 2017, the new amenities and features will promote socializing, networking, productivity and wellness among members. The Met, located in Allen Center, is part of The Downtown Clubs in Houston, a unique combination of two high-end athletic and sports clubs in separate downtown locations offering expanded dining, social, tennis, and fitness benefits.
“Members are going to be amazed by this transformation. The club will be so much more vibrant and we plan to use the space as a launchpad to introduce new programming and events,” said Cherie Lininger, general manager. “The new amenities will add value to membership by giving members more reasons to utilize the club in addition to their daily workouts and fitness activities.”
New amenities and features planned in The Met’s 155,000-square-foot location include:
- New Anytime Lounge day and night bar with full menu, extensive local craft beer and wine collection, and a variety of seating that includes communal tables, intimate cabanas, and a modular sofa
- Multiple workspaces that can serve as a home office or getaway from the hubbub of corporate surroundings
- Golf simulator for members to practice their swing, take lessons from an on-staff golf professional or reserve for private events and corporate outings
- New activity features that include everything from play stations to dining/ping pong tables
- Revamped juice bar
- New Tennis Lounge flat-screen TV
- Refreshed Locker Room experience
- Upgraded cycle studio
- New high-performance training center
- 10 resurfaced indoor tennis courts
- New club integrated heart-rate training system
- Host of new networking events and clubs within the club, including a Travel Club, International Club and Alumni Committee.
“Members are very excited about this reinvention project,” said Bruce Vandewalker, chairman of the club’s board of governors. “These new amenities will give members more fun ways to personally connect or just relax with friends and colleagues.”
The Downtown Clubs, comprised of The Met and Houston Center, offer expanded benefits for downtown business leaders and residents. The Met offers 10 premier indoor tennis, two racquetball and five international squash courts, NBA Basketball, a complete cardiovascular center, strength training options from free weights to functional training, group exercise studios, spa and a café, while Houston Center Club, located in Houston Center, offers a fitness center, basketball, group exercise studios, casual dining and executive meeting space.
